University of Delaware – Master’s degree in Accounting
What nugget of wisdom would you offer aspiring accountants?
I would share two of the guiding principles of my life:
Never stop learning – the world is changing every day, and continuous learning is what can keep us going, keep us adaptable and relevant.
&
Master the art of clarity – the more clearly you can explain a complex issue, the more indispensable you become.
What drew you to accounting?
The time spent with my grandfather and uncles at work. They owned a pharmaceutical wholesale and distribution company in our hometown, and I used to help them with small tasks while they worked through the accounting records, and that piqued my interest.
What law or regulation in the accounting industry would you like to see changed?
I’d like to see more streamlined compliance for small businesses – especially around multi-state tax filings. The current maze of regulations can be overwhelming for many.
What’s your proudest achievement?
By far, this – relocating to the other side of the world, immersing myself in learning, graduating from one of the best schools and earning a position at a very well-respected firm. And this is just the beginning!
Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life?
My father – hands down. He taught me how to live with integrity, humility and grace. I couldn’t have received more love, understanding, support, guidance or courage from anyone else in the world. Everything I am today, I owe it to him.
What is your favorite quote?
My top 3 that run on a loop in my heart:
“Have more than you show, speak less than you know”.
“If you want to shine like the sun, first burn like the sun”.
“Strength is life, weakness is death”.
What’s it like working for a firm that has been around so long?
It’s like stepping into a legacy, but there’s also an opportunity to contribute your own voice to its future. You feel part of something enduring, and that’s deeply humbling.
How do you relax when not working?
I allow myself many options for this – watching movies or TV series, practicing Carnatic music, cooking our South-Indian traditional food, tending to my plants, reading a good book, or taking a quiet stroll.
Favorite vacation?
A quiet retreat in the Western Ghats with my parents in May 2016 – surrounded by misty hills, temple bells, breathtaking forest-covered slopes, picturesque valleys, biodiversity hotspots, extensive ranges of spice and tea plantations, and scores of waterfalls.
Word that describes you.
Empathetic.
What was your favorite concert?
Dec 2019 – “Legends Live in Concert” by KJ Yesudas, SP Balasubrahmanyam, KS Chithra – LB Stadium, Hyderabad
March 2023 – “Raaja Live in Concert” by Ilaiyaraaja – in Hyderabad
